Welcome to the Leide blog

Engineering articles on DNV, NORSOK, EN, and ISO standards — written for offshore and marine engineers.

The Leide blog is the working notebook for offshore and marine engineering content we wish was easier to find. Topics span DNV, NORSOK, EN, and ISO standards — clause-cited explainers, calculator tutorials, and field notes from the engineering domain Leide is purpose-built for.

What you'll find here

  • Standards explainers. Plain-language walkthroughs of the clauses engineers reach for most often — DNV-ST-0378 padeye design, EN 1993-1-8 weld checks, ASME VIII pressure vessel sizing, ISO 2553 weld symbols.
  • Calculator tutorials. How and when to use each Leide calculator, with worked examples grounded in the relevant code clauses.
  • Field notes. Lessons from real engineering work — the gotchas, the uncertainty bounds, the "why does the standard say that" answers.

How to read these

Every post is clause-grounded. Where we cite a clause, you can verify against the original standard PDF. Where we calculate, the Leide calculator runs the same math in real time. The blog is a complement to the platform, not a replacement for engineering judgement.

Migration in progress

The legacy site has ~30 longer engineering posts (bolt torque, padeye design, weld symbols, fatigue curves, …). They're being ported to this Markdown pipeline progressively — older posts may be missing for a few days while that lands. If a specific post you remember isn't here yet, it's coming.

In the meantime, head to the AI Navigator and ask the question directly. Same knowledge base, same clause citations.
